we started working on the family room in november. these aren't the best pictures, but I promised to show the progress for those who live far away and missed all the fun. anyway, you get the idea. i can't believe it used to look like this!
here are some middle stages pictures so you can see how hard we worked. by the way the carpet looks about 1000% better in these pictures than it did in real life. you'll just have to trust me on that.
step 1: down with the beams
step 2: scrape the cieling (and patch and paint it)
step 3: down with the paneling- we still have it if anyone is looking to redecorate...
step 4: make a new doorway
step 5: hang drywall, mud, re-mud, sand
step 6: painting- primer, wall color, trim, fireplace insert
step 7: tear out the carpet and repair sub floor
step 8: LAY THOSE FLOORS
which brings us to the relatively-final product:
we still have to re-do the fireplace since we don't like the red brick anymore- we're thinking slate. the giant entertainment center is going back in the living room which is currently getting hardwood floors too (along with the dining room). next up is the pool which gets fixed next week- so come on over!

Great work...beautiful job!!!
I am really impressed! You guys are quite handy!
Wow! And all this took how many months? I love house projects as much as any other home owner, but it seems that you two have had your fair share and then some! I can't wait to see your place on the cover of 'Home Beautiful' or 'Martha Stewart'.
OHHHHH SNAP!! the floors are amazing. i'm definitely loving me some dark crown molding on a sage green wall! it seriously makes me hurt a little inside when i see those "before" pictures... a fantastic job! can't wait to experience it all for ourselves!!!
How did you get to be smart enough to know what to do? I'm also blown away by how much you have done and how great it looks.
Wow!!! Not the same house anymore...so how much do you guys charge for floor installation? And how soon can you come?
nice. I miss the carpet already. However, I have always found that my wii tennis game is better on hardwood.
becca (and jaime) - that is TRULY phenomenal. I am completely in awe of your abilities. I can't even imagine how much money you save being able to do that yourselves. If only I had the skills and the motivation/dedication. way to go!
